Mansfield v Swansea - Match Preview

MANSFIELD V SWANSEA - MATCH PREVIEW

Swan's caretaker boss Alan Curtis takes his team to Field Mill tonight to take on Mansfield in what is arguably our biggest test of the season so far. This will be the second time this season that the Swan's players and fans have made the trip to Nottinghamshire, the first fixture being called off on the morning of the game. hopefully this will not be another wasted journey.

With the euphoria of Saturday's win over Scunthorpe still fresh in the memory, expect few changes from Curtis as far as team selection and tactics. The team looked far more confident and balanced playing Curt's more orthadox system at the weekend, but he may be forced into at least one change with Kevin Nugent a possible absentee due to a hamstring injury. Whether top scorer Lee Trundle returns to the starting line-up alongside Paul Connor remains to be seen, but i'm sure the Mansfield defence won't relish the prospect of facing that partnership.

Mansfield boss Keith "quiet please" Curle will be without defender Adam Eaton and striker Iyesden Christie, but midfielder Neil MacKenzie is expected to start after recovering from a mild concussion.

So, can we realistically expect to come away from Field Mill with the points this evening? As previously mentioned, few could argue that we didn't look a more confident and comfortable side on Saturday playing the conventional 4-4-2 system. Whether this will be enough to overcome a solid Mansfield side remains to be seen. The stags form has been anything but consistent of late and if we're to hang on to any (slim) chances of reaching the play-offs, then these are the sort of games where the players need to stand up and be counted. With another tough away trip to Huddersfield on Saturday, the next five days could well make or break our season.
