Saints V Plymouth The Preview
Saints V Plymouth The Preview

The context of the home game against Plymouth has suddenly completely changed.

The preview for the visit of Plymouth looked to be a lot different than what you are about to read only a few short hours ago, back then it was hard to see anything but further misery for Saints as the shellshocked caretaker managers looked set to select the same shellshocked team and get the same results to further shellshock their long suffering supporters.

The appointment of Nigel Pearson has suddenly put a whole different dimension on the game, although at this moment in time it wouldnt be unfair to say that most Saints fans are completely bewildered by his arrival at the club, most cannot decide whether this is an inspired choice or an act of complete folly by an inexperienced Chairman, in truth the next few weeks will tell.

As for the visit of Argyle its hard to see much being able to change in the 24 hours that Pearoson will have been in charge, the only hope being that just the appointment of a new manager will have a galvanising effect.

It would be fair to say that pearson doesnt have the best squad to work with, but contary to the recent obituary notices its far from the worst in this division, its been underperforming all season and just needs a catalyst to spark it into life, of course this has come too late to salvage any lingering hopes of making the play offs, but the least we would want is a few early wins to make sure that we arent looking at relegation worries either.

Dont expect too much change in personell for the game, Pearson will have to rely on the guidance of D & G both who are remaining on the coaching staff, they will in effect probably pick the side and then it will be down to Pearson to start to stamp his own authority, for him to get a good idea of who should and should not be playing may take him a week or two, although in fairness if he watched saturday's game, and lets be blunt unless his appointmen was a complete knee jerk reaction from Crouch, he should have been, so he may have a few new ideas already.

One face most would hope to see back is Gregory Vignal, although not the first name on the team sheet he is the only left footed player in the club and should be restored to left back as soon as possible to offer us something on that flank.

Prior to Parson's appointment it was hard to say anything too positive about this game, in truth it still is, however there is just a little more hope than there was.

Saints fans should get behind Pearson, whether they approve of the appointment or not, the fact is he is here and we want him to succeed, what the club need tomorrow is an influx of fans to the game to give ST Mary's a semblance of an atmosphere, in the past at the Dell in these situations the fans rallied behind the team, turned out in numbers and were loud and proud, sadly I dont see too much of that anymore, but surely there are those who like me remember those days and remember how the fans played their part in keeping Saints in the Premier for so long, is it too much to hope that there are those out there who eel that sometimes when the team needs its supporters, they will respond, or has the incesant Sky TV and internet killed off the truly loyal fan, ask yourselves are you going to be at ST Mary's on Tuesday night backing the new manager and the team or are you going to make the excuse that you cant justify going to St Mary's anymore whilst they are playing so badly, whilst waiting, hovering over your keyboard, ready to post the obituary.

Sorry for the strong words, Im sure that there are those that have a valid reason for not being present and to those I apologise, but a host more of Saints fans have to look at themselves and say can I Be at St Mary's, and if so Then I Will Be !
