Blast From The Past - Mark Wilson

Blast From The Past - Mark Wilson

Wilson followed Steve McClaren out of Old Trafford to become one of the first signings of the former Old Trafford assistant manager's Middlesbrough reign. He made 9 appearances under Alex Ferguson, one of them in the Champions League campaign of 1998/99, before leaving for the Riverside in 2001. Wilson got his first taste of being loaned out when he was at United, when he scored 4 goals in 13 games for Wrexham, and due to injuries he was to become a serial loanee in the next few years of his career, spending time at Stoke, Swansea, Sheffield Wednesday, Doncaster and Livingston after failing to impress McClaren on his returns to training. Wilson arrived in South Wales in the September of 2003 to pull on the number 25 shirt for Brian Flynn. He immediately sent Trundle, Robinson and Martinez down the pecking order for dead ball duties and made his major contribution by seemingly taking ineffective corner after ineffective corner. The highlight of his short Swans career was curling a free kick into the onion bag in a 2-1 win at Carlisle, making the long trip home that much more bearable for the travelling fans. Wilson was released by Middlesbrough at the end of the 2004/05 season. At the time of writing he has made the trip across the Atlantic to try his luck with FC Dallas (formally Dallas Burn) in Major League Soccer.
