Ricketts Opens Hull Talks

Ricketts In Hull Talks

The Hull Daily Mai is reporting that Sam Ricketts has opened talks with the Tigers after their bid was sufficient to trigger a release clause in the Welsh defender's contract.

It is believed that the clause in question is activated on any bid over £300,000 and with bidding standing at a reported £325,000 then Ricketts has decided to hear what the Championship outfit has to say.

Losing Ricketts would naturally be a blow to a side that is already depleted through the release of three players and the signing of just one, Darren Pratley. And Chairman Huw Jenkins insisted on the weekend that Ricketts would be going nowhere, telling the Evening Post "We have received interest in a number of our players, but we are not looking to leave anyone go. Our objection is to strengthen"

The Hull paper does advise that Swansea have not accepted the offer for Ricketts but it is widely speculated that if the release clause has been triggered then if the player wants to go then surely he will be going?

And to lose Ricketts would be a blow although one softened slightly by a decent profit on the player who joined us from non league just two years ago. Selling him would have to mean that the money goes straight into our transfer fund and a replacement has to be found immediately along with the other players that we still need to complete what we hope could be a promotion challenging side for next season.

One thing that does look certain is that this will come to a swift close over the next few days with Ricketts potentially having played his last game for the club at the Millennoum Stadium back in May.
