Alan Tate was the unlikely goalscoring hero on the weekend as he scored only the 2nd goal of his Swansea career in almost 180 appearances for the side over two loan spells and his permanent move.

Tate's 25 yard volley set the Swans on a comeback that earned them a point and kept the play off dream alive just when it appeared to be dying in the Bournemouth sun.

Just a couple of minutes later and Lee Trundle was celebrating an equaliser which, despite dropping the Swans a league place, left them just three points off the play off zone with three games to go.

And Tate was admitting that it was the best goal of his career - despite the relatively little competition for that title - he told the Western Mail "I scored a few goals in junior football, but none better than that, "I got a good one once in a Youth Cup warm-up game (for Manchester United) against Wrexham when I was 18.

"But that was with my right foot so it doesn't count.

"I heard the lad coming right up behind me and he sounded quick," said Tate, whose only previous Swansea goal in nearly 140 appearances came during a 2-1 home win over Leyton Orient in February 2004.

"So I didn't fancy running with him. It was the right height to hit and it wasn't coming quick, so I thought why not?

"It could have ended up in the sea, but as soon as I hit it I knew I'd caught it really well. Once I saw the height it was at I knew it was in.
