Jordi Gomez insists that he has the ability to be a success at Swansea

Gomez insists that getting used to the game in this country will not be at the expense of his natural style which appears to be one of flamboyance with some criticising him for being too lightweight and luxurious.

However, it is clear that Roberto believes there is something there and it also appears that the midfielder will have a big influence on the Swans season with him being expected to be named on the bench for this afternoon's game against Nottingham Forest

And Gomez also has the confidence in his own ability to add to that and he told the Western Mail “I have been involved in two games now and I can sense the difference

“Like anyone, it will take time for me to get used to it. The game is a lot faster and the rhythm is different and Spanish players coming over will always have some trouble trying to adapt to that.

“In Spain things are more quiet and calm and, even though Swansea play good, passing football, the game is still much quicker.

“So I will have to adapt my football a little bit, but not losing what makes me the player I am.

“But I feel happy with what I’ve shown so far and now I would like more chances to improve because I believe I have enough ability to be a success.

“I didn’t have a lot of time against Charlton, but I certainly enjoyed it

“I felt I made one or two things happen. I came on to try and do something because we were chasing the game.

“I am fine with that and I think I can cope, even though I am still getting used to the pace of the Championship.

“We didn’t play badly against Charlton and now it is up to all of us to keep working hard and keep going in what we believe in, and that includes myself and my own game.”

Gomez words were echoed by Roberto who said “He needs time to adapt to the British game and that will make the difference for him, but he is one of these players that makes football look very, very easy.

“Some very big players do that and look like they have time where they have no right to it.

“Jordi can look like he is playing in second gear when he has another three to offer.

“He gives the sensation he isn’t working at 100 per cent or working really hard for the team, but look at the stats and you will see the distance and the yards he covers is right up there.

“He is a player who looks like his talent is effortless but needs a lot of work to achieve and that is an example of what kind of player we have – a very good, confident player who has superb skill on the ball and a fantastic left foot.”
