Dorus De Vries says it's great to see Ferrie Bodde back in action as the midfielder prepareds to return back to Wales

It's been a long fourteen months for the Swansea City midfielder who saw his return from injury earlier this season last an all too short period of time before initially being diagnosed as out for the season.

But recent reports have suggested that the influential Dutchman could be set for a return ahead of schedule seemingly vindicating the Swans decision to allow him to head home for treatment under Dutch physio Corne van Geest and rehab coach Rob Meppelink

And Dorus reveals that he has been in touch with Ferrie during his absence, telling Wales on Sunday “I’ve been in touch with Ferrie quite a bit while he’s been back in Holland. He’s been doing really well and it’s great to be able to start talking about when he might be coming back.

“I think he’s getting to the stage where he wants to breathe up the atmosphere again, whether watching games or training, and being part of things again.

“He’s getting more and more upbeat because he knows it’s getting closer.

“But he’s also known he’s had to take his time.

“That’s why I think he did the right thing to stay in Holland to recover .

“He had to get away from the football here because when you’ve been through what he’s gone through seeing all the lads involved and playing can eat away at you.

“It can tempt you to get back on the pitch perhaps that bit too soon.

“He knows he’s had the right people around him and been able to take his time and make sure things were right for him.

“The time will come for Ferrie and the main thing for him and for the club is to get him back to his best – however long it takes.

“He’s been working so hard which he knew he had to do and not feel sorry for himself,” said de Vries.

“He’s got the right people around him and the club has supported his decision.

“Hopefully he will come back the Ferrie Bodde we all saw before his injuries.

“He’s a top player and such a big part of the team, but after the injuries people have got to give him time.”
