Monk - It's More Than Just A Derby Game
Monk - It's More Than Just A Derby Game

Garry Monk was looking both backwards and forwards as he talked about the weekend clash at Cardiff City Stadium

The Swansea City captain remembered last year's fixture at Cardiff when he had to tend to referee Mike Dean after the official was hit on the head with a coin during the first half of the 2-2 draw.

But he also believes that Cardiff's move to their new stadium means that the incident will not be repeated as the two club's prepare for what could be the biggest derby yet.

Monk told News of the World "It's not nice what happened last season but sadly you get this in football, especially in derby games.

"You hope the game passes off without any trouble.   I don't think there will be a problem.

"The majority of fans want to support their team - it's only a few idiots who don't

"Cardiff have moved into a new stadium now and that fans won't be on top of us like they were at Ninian Park.

"We're both pushing for promotion so it's more than just another derby game.   It's a huge fixture when you look at our positions in the table and where we both want to go."
