Alan Tate says Cardiff insults written on Facebook and Twitter are nothing to do with him

The Swansea City vice captain contacted the Evening Post to ask them to set the record straight after insults against Cardiff fans and players appeared on the social networking sites.

Tate said "I just want to say before this gets out of hand that I am not on Facebook or Twitter

"Who knows what could be written?

''Someone could put something racist on there or something like that.

"They could write whatever they want, so I want to point out that it's not me on there."

He said he knew nothing about the sites until he got a phone call from Swansea City three or four weeks ago explaining the situation.

"Since then I've had texts and phone calls about what I have put on Twitter or Facebook, but it's not me,'' he went on.

"I think things have been said about Michael Chopra and Jay Bothroyd and about Cardiff in the play-offs, but I want people to know that I don't go on these sites

"I can't get these people to stop because I don't even know who they are," he added.

"You don't want people to use your name, obviously, but the most important thing is that people know it's not me.

"I was on there a couple of years back but after two or three months I was off it," said the 27-year-old.

"I think a few of the Swansea lads are on there now, but I don't think they've had as much to do with Cardiff as I have in the past, and that's why I got off there."
