Swansea 1 Manchester United 4 - Post Match Reactions
Saturday, 17th Aug 2013 23:13

It was a disappointing evening for the Swans at the Liberty Stadium as they were beaten 4-1 by Manchester United in their season opener.

Two goals from Robin Van Persie and two from Danny Wellbeck surrounded a first Premier League goal for Wilfried Bony as the Champions showed the Swans the value of clinical finishing to start their own season with a bang and give the Swans more food for thought for the challenges ahead.

Afterwards the managers and players gave their reactions to the result

Manchester United manager David Moyes "The players done it today and did really well. I thought Swansea had a lot of the ball but any team who does come down here will find they will have a lot of the ball and pass it well. They're very well managed under Michael Laudrup and they've improved the squad so I've no doubt they'll do well this year."

Michael Laudrup “Our plan was to put them under pressure, we knew it would be a long game and it worked well for the first half hour as they only had one shot on target.

“But then you see that difference — and the first goal was a great finish. But to concede two goals in two minutes against a team like Manchester United makes it very difficult after that.

“We created some chances after that but the third goal meant it was game over. The main difference was the finishing, and losing the two goals like we did was a huge blow.

Swans defender Angel Rangel “Obviously we're disappointed, we hadn’t lost a game up until now, including pre-season, so sometimes it’s a good thing to have a result like this.

“It was two minutes of madness really - and it ended up changing the game.

“If they hadn’t scored the second goal then I think we would have had a chance in the second half."

Robin Van Persie, scorer of two goals "It is the first game of the league away from home,

"They are a great team the way they play. I love the way they play and they are very hard to play at times. It is a big win.

"The first goal changed the game and we got the second shortly after so it helped us.

"The first one I had a touch and felt at the time it was quite heavy so I had to take it (the shot) as high as possible.

"The first game of the season you just don't want to lose. We worked very hard so I'm very pleased."
