Monk Hails Swans Team Spirit

It was probably no surprise to find after the Swans win at Old Trafford that one of the biggest smiles to be found at the ground was on the face of Swans boss Garry Monk who became the first Swansea manager in history to lead his side to a league win at Manchester United.

Goals from Ki Sung Yeung and Gylfi Sigurdsson gave the Swans the victory that they deserved and it was certainly a badge of honour for Monk who was widely criticised in the week for changing the formation in the last home friendly against Villarreal.

It was interesting to see Monk in action at the fans forum this week as it was evident that his passion for the job is stronger than it had ever been and that he firmly believes in his ability and the ability of the players that he has at his disposal. He dispatched those players today in a more familiar formation and was rewarded with a famous win for the Swans that put us top of the table - a position we only relinquished after Arsenal sneaked a late winner against Crystal Palace.

Monk praised the togetherness in the squad when speaking to the press after the game “I’m very happy with the three points,” said the Swans boss. “The key was coming together as a group and working hard for each other.

“To a man, everyone was focussed and together. It would be unfair to single out one player.

“Throughout pre-season, we worked hard to put in place a structure that allowed us to adapt to different formations. It was very pleasing that, for most of the game, we managed to do that."

Monk was not one to rest on his laurels though and he also added that we can play better and that no doubt is now what he will be working on ahead of the visit of Burnley next week where the Swans will start as clear favourites to win the game and take their tally to six from six.

The win also gives us a better record against the top 8 teams from last season from just one game then we managed in 16 last time around. Not a bad day's work!
