If You Were Garry - Everton (Home)
Tuesday, 23rd Sep 2014 07:34 by Planet Swans (follow us on Twitter @swansnews)

The early stages of the Capital One Cup are always difficult to predict a Swans line up - or any team line up for that matter as managers tend to use the full depth of their squad to try and get into the next round.

The Swans entertain Everton this evening at the Liberty in a 3rd Round clash that could see the winners progress to the last 16 of the competition and one step nearer to a Wembley final.

Before I take time to look at who I think will start for us, I think Everton will field a very weakened side for this game - they played last Thursday in Europe, last Sunday in the Premier League and on Saturday have the Merseyside derby to look forward to as well. This is probably one fixture that they could do without at this point in time so don't expect to see too many regular first teamers in action for them this evening.

For us I think it will be a mix. I just cannot believe that we will go into the game at full strength but I do think it will be a strong looking side and one which will give us an excellent chance of beating Everton for the first time ever in a competitive game. With a near sell out crowd guaranteed at the Liberty (an amazing feat for this stage of the competition) it could be one of those special evenings for the Swans as we try and put the disappointment of back to back league defeats behind us.

So what could Garry's line up look like for this particular game?

In goals I think Gerhard Tremmel will come back into the side. He played in the last round against Rotherham and I think it is important to keep giving him some game time just in case we need him in a league scenario at any point.

Defensively it seems almost certain to me that we will see both Dwight Tiendalli and Kyle Bartley in action for this game. Lining up alongside Bartley I think will be Fernandez rather than Ashley Williams whilst I would guess that Jazz Richards will complete the back four that looks significantly different from the one that played against Southampton on Saturday.

Tom Carrol will be in midfield for this game and I would not be surprised to see him alongside Jonjo Shelvey. Playing the 'No 10 role' is a difficult one but I wonder whether we may see Marvin Emnes given the nod there with Gylfi on the bench if we need him.

Out wide I think it will be Nathan Dyer and Jefferson Montero to start although it could easily be Routs ahead of Dyer but Montero is a given to start for me.

Up front there is no choice but to go with Gomis with Bony suspended.

That will give us a line up that looks like this
