Koeman Confirms He Is Staying At Saints
Thursday, 16th Oct 2014 16:22

Ronald Koeman has confirmed that he is not going to leave Saints even if the job of Holland International team manager is offered to him.

Speaking ahead of Saints home fixture against Sunderland, Koeman confirmed he had been interested in the job before he had joined Saints but that now his loyalty lay with Southampton.

“I was interested in that job, because when I left Feyenoord I was nominated to be the national coach, but the federation chose for Hiddink on that moment,” he said.

“But not now, now I am the coach and the manager of Southampton and they have to wait if they like me as the coach.”

Asked if that meant he was definitely staying for the rest of this season, Koeman said: “Yes. I hope for the whole contract. It’s football, but I don’t move. There is no chance to move now out of Southampton.”

The news that Saints fans want to hear, after the issues of the last few seasons the managers job at Saints has been on a revolving door basis and Saints fans have been used to either seeing managers fail or when they do well leaving for supposedly better things at the height of their success, not to mention as in the case of Alan Pardew sacked for no apparent reason.

What we need now is stability, hopefully Ronald Koeman will give us that and implement a focused plan over the next few years.

...and Nigel Adkins? He neither failed nor went to "greener" pastures, he just didn't have a PL shaped face (according to some). How soon we forget.

Brilliant news, but I wrote on yesterday's comment that the Dutch job would really have been a no-brainer for a manager like RoKo. He currently has an up and coming club with very little pressures on him. After our summer, nearly all of us would be happy with last year's achievements, but with luck, we could easily surpass that- with the right man at the helm!! Thank you for your loyalty Ron!

This was the first thing I read today and it really put a smile on my face. It's the best news we Saints fans have had for a long while.

Perhaps most importantly it sets an excellent example to the squad that they have a leader who is as good as his word. No hint of hypocrisy or grass is greener syndrome here.

RoKo is clearly deserving of our unwavering respect and support...I think he is a man who means what he says...as in " no...you are not available for transfer..."
