Saints Now Linked With Brentford Defender Wednesday, 19th Aug 2015 11:20 The list of central defenders to be linked with Southampton Football Club is seemingly endless as allegedly we are now looking less Western Europe and more West London. Brentford central defender James Tarkowski is the latest central defender to be linked with a move to Saints. The 6ft 3 Manchester born player joined Brentford from Oldham in January 2014 and is rumoured to be one of the names on Ronald Koeman's list as he searches for another big defender. Tarkowski can perhaps owe his debut for Oldham to Saints, after Saints had beaten the Lancashire club 6-0 at Boundary Park in January 2011, Tarkowski was called into the squad for the following game, making his debut off the bench the following week as Oldham looked to shore up a leaky defence. Last season he was a rock in a Brentford defence that almost took the Bee's to the Premier league. But it's hard to see why Saints would be looking at a relatively inexperienced player given that we have several promising central defenders of a similar age whom we have loaned out for the season, Tarkowski is a whole different kettle of fish to the likes of Van Dijk and Koulibaly, both of whom are experienced at the top level and in Europe. Again this rumour seems to be fuelled by an agent somewhere trying to bring his client's talents to the attention of Premier League clubs.
