Accrington Stanley have defended their efforts to get the Pompey game on - and the decision to call it off.

Many Pompey fans were at least halfway to the north-west by the time the match was postponed iin a 10am inspection.

believe they did all they could to get today’s League Two clash with Pompey on.

The Blues’ game with their promotion rivals was called off this morning after a 10am pitch inspection at the Crown Ground.

Accrington said on theit Twitter account: ‘A huge effort has gone in to do everything to get this game on and the weather has beaten us. Referee came as early as he could this morning.

‘We promise you, nobody is more frustrated than us at another game off. No excuse for abusive phone calls though. Staff just doing their jobs.’

The call-off gives Pompey another midweek trip they could do without and they will be hoping the combination of their continuing involvement in the FA Cup and the current winter weather doesn't leave them with too much of a backlog.

They'e back to Fratton twice this week - with Ipswich visiting in the FA Cup on Tuesday and Oxford in the league on Saturday.
