No game - but no great loss for Pompey in promotion race
No game - but no great loss for Pompey in promotion race

Storm Katie put paid to Pompey's hopes of taking three points from AFC Wimbledon - but it turned out not to be too bad a day for the Blues in the promotion race.

A waterlogged Kingsmeadow pitch saw Pompey's game called off on Monday morning and it has left them with an extra game to fit in between now and the season's end on May 7.

But few of their promotion rivals took advantage of their lack of action at the top of League Two.

Only two of the other seven teams in the top eight won - and Plymouth almost blew their own victory chances, seeing a 3-0 lead at home to York narrowed to 3-2 by the end of the game.

The Pilgrims move back into the top three while the day's other winners, Accrington, who won 2-0 at Newport, are just a point behind them.

Bristol Rovers' good run came to an end with a 3-2 defeat at Carlisle, while Northampton and Oxford could only draw with Mansfield and Cambridge respectively.

It leaves Pompey, who host Carlisle on Saturday, eight points off the top three but with a game in hand on all the teams above them and two in hand on second-placed Oxford.
