Academy Star Departs, Yoshida set to stay a Saint and Hughes Deal Close.

Redandwhitesupporter takes a look at what could be the start of a busy summer for Saints with comings, goings and stayings !

Young saints academy starlet Olufela Olomola, has today completed a move away from St Marys' to join League one side Scunthorpe United on a three year deal.

Olomola, who spent the majority of last season on loan at League two side Yeovil Town, scoring seven goals for the Somerset based outfit in twenty eight appearances.

The twenty year olds successful spell, has seemingly caught the attention of the League one side deeming him ready to make the step up a division at Glandford Park next season.

I am sure all fellow Saints supporters, will join me in wishing Olufela nothing but success in his new chapter up north.

On the other side of the coin, The Daily Echo is today reporting that experienced defender Maya Yoshida is set to stay at Saints this summer despite interest from Saudi Arabia side Al Hilal.

The Saudi Arabian Champions, have made their interest known to Yoshida's representative but the Japanese international and his family are well settled in the Winchester area and he has no plans to move them to the middle east.

The long serving centre back, is the only real experienced head amongst the current crop of centre backs on the south coast and the news will come as a boost to Saints.

In some managerial news, Sky Sports are reporting that Mark Hughes is close to penning a three year deal to become permanent first team manager at Southampton football club.

The majority of fans have been calling for the board to tie the Welshman down, after his successful efforts to keep the club in the premier league over the last 8 games of the season.

According to trusted Saints reporter Jeremy Wilson of the Daily Telegraph, Hughes is the only candidate the club has spoken too and an appointment is expected to be confirmed early this week.

Hopefully the news will bring some stability to the team, and news on First team players future both in and out of the club can then come about quickly in what is to be a big summer for the club.

I bet you choked on your bacon sarnie this morning Nick, Yoshi is staying. Yippee!

Mind you many of us have been telling you for years that Maya is a clubman through and through and will stay here as a coach long after his playing days are over. Guys of his character and loyalty don't come our way very often.

Olomola was never a star and you should chose your nouns more carefully. Meteor would have been more apposite as he has seemingly burned out on re-enty.

Arteta is still available after Arsenal appeared to change their mind late in day - I would love it if the club ignored Hughes and looked at him!

Olomola will do well in L1, although the Iron almost made it to the Championship..I'd expect him to score goals at that level and I just hope he makes the best of his chance.

Yoshida (like Davis) is a good club man with a fine record of internationals for a country not rated as World Class. Like everyone he has his faults, but he is an honest player who invariably puts in a shift, and who got a bad reputation when Koeman insisted on playing him as an emergency right back where he sadly made a few crucial match-losing errors.

He is also one of the very few "older " experienced players in the squad. I also think that staying with Saints must have been a " no brainer " in the Yoshida household.
Living 6 years in a country where you could already understand the language must be better than moving to the Middle East (even if the salary on offer was better ) is not a good reason - or because the flight back to Japan is a shorter journey time.

Good decision Maya.

Good news on Maya, though how many other first teamers get to dine abroad with our owner?
On Monday, the Sparky deal is close, so wondering what's happened on Thursday?
Is he refusing to accept that player recruitment is carried out by Mary Berry and her team, and our team selection by phone in? Does the press conference all hinge on Les Reed's agoraphobia? Come on Echo, we need to know? (sorry, another forum)
