Up for the cup
Sunday, 17th Feb 2019 07:18 by Planet Swans (follow us on Twitter @swansnews)

You wait over 50 years for a FA Cup quarter final and it could be the case this afternoon that two come around in two years as the Swans prepare to host Brentford at the Liberty with a place in the last eight of the competition the prize awaiting the winners.

And there must be winners this afternoon with the FA having scrapped replays at this stage of the competition for the first time meaning that for a level game after 90 minutes, the thought of extra time and then possibly penalties beckons.

The competition this season has already opened up to be one where many of the "big" teams have disappeared - Man City's progression last night will only be matched by that of Chelsea or Man Utd from the so-called big six although Premier League sides already occupy three of the four quarter final spots taken to date.

The Swans meek surrender in the last eight of last year's competition will be fresh in the memories for many and the chance to progress this time around and have another shot at reaching a Wembley semi final is a good one and one that Graham Potter will be looking to his side to take.

Oli McBurnie could start after returning from illness to come on as a substitute in midweek.

Nathan Dyer is a doubt with a hamstring problem, while Leroy Fer, Declan John and Wayne Routledge are all ruled out with hamstring, ankle and calf injuries respectively.

Brentford will assess Rico Henry, who has been sidelined with a foot injury.

Fellow defender Henrik Dalsgaard is hoping to play, despite breaking a bone in his hand in training last Monday.

In terms of the bookies, they see the Swans as slight favourites to progress with 21/20 being the price on a home win, 43/20 on the away win and 11/10 the draw with the odds clearly reflecting the 90 minute price.

As ever, our match preview is bought to you in partnership with the Swans official shirt sponsors BetUK and we have picked out top three bets for the game.

1. The obvious one of first goalscorer. He is a man on form and you would be mad to bet against him it seems at the moment so the odds of 5/1 on Oli McBurnie to score the first goal is too good to turn down in our heads.

2. The Swans to get a clean sheet? It is never easy with some of our defending these days but the odds of 51/20 that we will keep a clean sheet seems a good one so worth a punt if you are that way inclined.

3. A market we have not paid much attention to is the first booking one and at 13/1 I cant help but think you are one poorly timed Mike Van der Hoorn challenge away from a good pay day there.
