Late Loan Moves For Saints Trio
Monday, 2nd Sep 2019 12:33

One Saints player has already completed his loan move contract today, joining Guido Carrillo who left for Leganes yesterday and another two are likely to follow suit shortly.

Jake Hesketh has joined Lincoln City on loan for the rest of the season and he is likely to be joined by both Mario Lemina & Wesley Hoedt before the European transfer window closes.

Lemina, who has beenin conflict with Saints all summer, looks set to join Turkish side Galatasaray for the rest of the campaign, not the big club move his agent had clearly promised him.

Hoedt is set to join Belgium side Antwerp and although he does not seem to be in conflict with Saints as per Lemina it is clear he has had enough at St Mary's and wants away, the loan move will have an option to buy if his time there is successful.

Saints would have ideally liked to have been able to get rid of at least a couple on a permanent move, but clearly the players salary's are an issue for a buying club, so Saints have to be content with knocking a fair few quid off the wage bill for the season, if they only get £100k a week off the bill that is still a saving of £5 million or so over the season and is a significant amount.

Ironic you used a pic of Hoedt where it looks like he's just mis-timed a header......

Your comments are well-made. If these players had shown talent at their previous clubs they weren't " bad buys ", but clearly became square pegs in our everchanging set-up.

Sometimes such players become outcasts when the team doesn't play a system that best suits their talents. I recall JayRod spent much of his first season stuck out on the left wing, at a time when Lambert was clearly "the main man". Tough luck.

Hoedt, Lemina and Elyounoussi all fall outside of the pattern that Ralph wants to play and as Carrillo was clearly Pellegrino's choice it's now up to him to prove that his judgement was correct. Boufal and Cedric have been given a lifeline to prove themselves afresh to Ralph and may ultimately stay, but only time will tell.

You also made the point about saving on salaries. Even if Saints are "subsidizing " their huge salaries, having them off the books for a year will be a major saving, and if they impress enough for their loan clubs to buy them, at least we may re-coup a little more.

Lots of hard work has been going on behind the scenes. Well done to all the staff involved in getting these moves over the line.
