Geraint Williams has cited the reason for Karl Duguid’s absence from the Bristol City game being because he decided to rest the player.

Duguid was named in the squad to travel to Bristol on Saturday, but didn’t make the journey, adding to the speculation that he could be leaving the U's.

Speaking to the press after the 1-1 draw at Ashton Gate, Williams said: "Karl has been out-of-sorts lately, so I decided to give him a break.

"It wasn't worth a senior player like Karl travelling here for the weekend, if he wasn't going to be playing, so he's had a rest. He'll be back in for training next week. I don't deal in speculation, until everything is in black and white, and not even then!"
