Lewis Goes to Derby
Lewis Goes to Derby

Eddie Lewis is on his way to Derby County for an undisclosed fee, subject to completing a medical.

Lewis joined on a free transfer from Preston in the summer of 2005, scored nine goals in 96 appearances for the club, and is in the final year of his contract. On the official site it says “the 33-year-old felt that the opportunity to play in the Premier League again was too good a chance to miss out on. It will also help keep open his international opportunities with the USA that may have been passed over if he played regular football in League One. Eddie is undertaking a medical at Derby and we wish him all the best for the future.”

During his time at Leeds he has been occasionally brilliant (such as his performance at Plymouth in the first game of 2006) but all too often has been rather inconsistent. All the same, he has been a valuable member of the squad, and has been willing to help out at left back whenever Leeds have needed him to play there. But I’m glad that we’ve managed to pick up a fee for a 33 year-old, and we have managed to get a relatively high earner off the books. So it seems to be good business by Dennis Wise, and we can only hope that he can re-invest the proceeds in some decent young talent.
