Chaos in the ticket office queue
Chaos in the ticket office queue
Wednesday, 21st May 2008 23:15

There were angry scenes outside the ticket office today as some fans who had camped out overnight faced the prospect of missing out on play off final tickets.

Today season ticket holders and members were allowed to buy additional tickets and fans had been arriving since yesterday evening. Yet when the club opened for business just after 9am, the queue suddenly got wider rather than longer. A lack of supervision allowed some late arrivals to rush to the front ahead of many who had camped out overnight.

Police had to be called as tempers frayed, and some order was eventually restored, with fans waiting in a holding area before being allowed to move forward ten at a time. But fans had to wait without access to refreshments or toilet facilities for up to nine hours, and faced the prospect of losing their place in the queue if they popped to the shops.

Not surprisingly there were reports of some fans fainting and others being pulled from the crush for their own safety. The tickets have now sold out without having gone on general sale, with many fans going home empty handed after waiting for some considerable time.

But at least those who did manage to get their hands on the tickets they came for will have time to catch up on lost sleep before they head off to enjoy Sunday’s play-off final.
