United have kicked off their pre-season with a win at Blue Square Bet South side Dover Athletic.

As is usually the case for the U's first pre-season fixture, different teams were played for each half, with trialists Ben Coker and Lloyd James given a run out in the first half, while new signings Brian Wilson and Andrew Bond, plus trialist James Walker played the second half.

Anthony Wordsworth put the U's in the lead on 20 minutes, capitalising on a mistake by Dover goalkeeper Ross Flitney who came out to collect a cross and missed it allowing him to head in.

Clive Platt doubled the U's lead midway through the second half, heading in at the back post after a cross from Ian Henderson.

First Half (4-3-3): Cousins, Maybury, Okuonghae, Reid, Coker, Perkins, James, Wordsworth, Gillespie, Odejayi, Vincent.

Second Half: (4-4-2): Cousins (Phillips 80), Wilson (Beevers 76), Heath, Baldwin, White, Henderson, Izzet, Bond, Hackney, Platt, Walker.

The U's next pre-season friendly is away at Heybridge Swifts on Wednesday 14th July (kick off 7.30pm).
