Hatters finally end barren spell at Edgeley Park
Hatters finally end barren spell at Edgeley Park

County are celebrating their first League win at Edgeley Park since February after beating fellow strugglers Barnet 2-1. The Hatters had to come from behind to record a long awaited victory.

Barnet’s squad arrived at Edgeley Park decimated by injury and so we had to take advantage of their problems to create a bit of distance between ourselves and the relegation zone. County made hard work of their under strength opponents although in the end we got a positive result to end a two match losing streak.

The Bees went ahead within the first minute of the second half as dangerman Mark Byrne headed home past the outstretched arm of Matt Glennon following a George Francom cross.

County didn’t have to wait long to get back on level terms as George Donnelly (pictured) bagged his 7th of the season after firing in a left footed shot which went in off the post after he had received a throw in from Mark Lynch.

Barnet suffered a blow when central defender went off injured and that seemed to give County a timely boost as they sought maximum points. The Hatters winner came from an unlikely source in the 79th minute, as left back Robbie Williams prodded the ball home past Jake Cole following an Anthony Pulis cross.

George Donnelly looked to have sealed the result beyond doubt when he latched on to a Robbie Williams clearance and scored, although he was adjudged to have fouled his marker in the build up.

Although it wasn’t our best performance of the season, it’s the result that matters and finally we can all enjoy a Saturday night following a win at Edgeley Park.
