Not only is Dickens named as our worst goal keeper of all time, he is the only player who has been named in a book as our worst ever player. Yes Dickens was featured in a book by Sky Supremo Jeff Stelling entitled "England's Worst Footballers" as Dale's nomination for our worst ever. This accolade was added to when in a site poll in our previous guise on Rivals.net, we started work on our worst ever team as part of our Centenary celebrations, and Dickens walked away with the title of "Worst Ever Keeper" beating the likes of Kevin Pilkington and Lance Key. Dickens was a Blackburn player, after Rovers had shelled out £250,000 for his services from Lincoln City proving they really did have more money than sense in them days. Anyway, Dickens spent a month on loan at Spotland conceding fifteen goals in just four games to the extent that he was chased off the pitch at a league game at Torquay. After leaving us, he had spells at Altrincham and a few others around the non league scene but he'd done enough in his four games with us to ensure his place in history. Also known as the final nail in Dave Sutton's coffin.
