Perfidious Albion... 07:39 - Sep 7 with 925 viewsspudgun

Not a team in the Northern Premier League, but probably what the EU are thinking today about Great Britain, as Boris Johnson sets a deadline of October 15th with the European Union, and threatens to unpick legally binding earlier agreements.

Really we should have expected nothing less from the dishonourable, work-shy shyster.

Expect the EU will be a tad annoyed...

Sticking grenades down your own trousers and threatening to pull the pin is a strategy Baldrick may suggest to Blackadder.

Looks like the blame game has started in earnest, paving a way for the looming disaster of a `no deal exit`, or as George` Useless` Eustace called it this morning; the `Australian` option.

Blatant attempt to scupper any negotiations...

It's very Trumpesque. Takes the news cycle off tricky subjects and back on to a subject that helped win an election.

It's the new populist, nationalist way, Don't like a deal/treaty? (even your own oven baked one) then tear it up. Very 1930's.

Only problem is, will anyone trust anything we sign in the future and we can't now criticise other countries when they do the same.

‘Where there is harmony, may we bring discord. Where there is truth, may we bring error. Where there is faith, may we bring doubt. And where there is hope, may we bring despair’

Yep, exactly Red.

Heard Hancock talking about the Covid vaccines that Britain has already ordered subject to final testing.

Now what if the company says to Britain, when it is fully approved : "We`re not giving you any, we`ve changed our mind. We`re giving your order to the EU instead. Sorry."

"But we had a deal..." wails Hancock.

"Yeah! Whatever!"

"F***!!"

Johnson is an utter tosser...

I wouldn't be surprised if the UK asks to rejoin the EU within the next 10 years.

There'll be a referendum and "rejoin" will win by a landslide.

Can't you just see it happening?

Hands up here for not knowing the word 'perfidious'.

Actually originates from your adopted country spell, a French term: "la perfide Albion" - a quote from the Marquis de Ximenes in the 18th century.*

*Had to google that bit...

Even then the English were judged as deceitful and untrustworthy...

I agree about Boris but the more the EU or should I say France and Germany (the true rulers of the European continent) are rattled the better.

Not sure whether they are rattled, Imp.

Dismayed and exasperated, perhaps.

Just like Johnson`s ex-wives and girlfriends...

Spell

"Perfidious" was used a lot in the Mark Francois parody account. (Even then I had to google it first time).

Think you'd nave to wait a good 20 years before another EU vote. Need to wait until some of our generation has died off.

Any return to the EU would be on worse terms than we left on, we'd have lost all our opt outs... Schengen, Euro, etc.

The ability to print your own money and set your own rates is massive at the moment.

Northern Ireland Secretary admits new bill will 'break international law'

A government minister has said a new bill to amend the UK's Brexit deal with the EU will "break international law".

Concerns had been raised about legislation being brought forward which could change parts of the withdrawal agreement, negotiated last year.

Northern Ireland Secretary Brandon Lewis conceded it would go against the treaty in a "specific and limited way".

Former PM Theresa May warned the change could damage "trust" in the UK over future trade deals with other states.

No 10 revealed on Monday that it would be introducing a new UK Internal Market Bill that could affect post-Brexit customs and trade rules in Northern Ireland.

Downing Street said it would only make "minor clarifications in extremely specific areas" - but it had worried some in Brussels and Westminster that it could see the government try to change the withdrawal agreement, which became international law when the UK left the EU in January.

The row comes at the start of the eighth round of post-Brexit trade deal talks between the UK and the EU.

The two sides are trying to secure a deal before the end of the transition period on 31 December, which will see the UK going onto World Trade Organisation rules if no agreement is reached.

On Monday, Boris Johnson said if a deal hadn't been done by the time the European Council meets on 15 October, the two sides should "move on" and accept the UK's exit without one.

Shadow Northern Ireland Secretary, Louise Haigh, said it was "deeply concerning" that the prime minister "appeared to be undermining the legal obligations of his own deal" with the introduction of the new law while the negotiations are taking place.
