Kick It Out - 'Weeks of Action' Events (and Meet Mark O'Brien!)

The annual ‘One Community, One Game’ Anti-Racism in Football campaign’s Weeks of Action run from October 18-29th this season.

The annual ‘One Community, One Game’ Anti-Racism in Football campaign’s Weeks of Action run from October 18-29th this season and Derby County players and fans will be involved in events to mark the fortnight.

Along with professional and amateur League clubs up and down the country, club and fans will be participating in various local initiatives.

You can read about some of the events planned during the fortnight on the Kick It Out website at: http://www.kickitout.org/1478.php

Locally, Derbyshire FA, in conjunction with the University of Derby, is running two events looking to highlight issues around discrimination and diversity in sport as part of the forthcoming ‘One Game, One Community’ weeks of action.

Their Kick It Out events centre upon the homophobic and faith issues in football:

‘Football vs. Homophobia: Is Football Ready for an ‘Out’ Gay Player?’

This is an open debate including a panel of representatives supplied by Kick It Out, Derbyshire County FA, University of Derby, University of Derby Athletic Union, Derby County FC and Derbyshire Friend.

This event is free of charge and takes place on Monday 22 October, running from 6.30-8.30pm at University of Derby Enterprise Centre, Bridge Street, Derby, DE1 3LD.

‘Faith in Sport: Does Your Faith Influence Your Sport?’

This is an open debate focused around whether faith is a barrier to participation in sport and are National Governing Bodies such as The FA doing enough to combat discrimination in sport.

The event is free of charge and takes place on Tuesday 6 November, running from 6.30-8.30pm at the Multi-Faith Centre, the University of Derby, Kedleston Road, DE22 1GB.

Another KIO ‘Weeks of Action’ promotional event takes place in Derby between 11.00 am & 2.00 pm in the foyer of the DW Soccerdome before the Rams’ home game with Blackburn Rovers on Saturday 20th October 2012.

Young Irish Rams defender Mark O’Brien will be guesting at the event at 1.30 pm - so come along and meet Mark before the Rams' home game and join in the ‘One Game, One Community’ fortnight.
