Conor Chaplin says his new Pompey deal is the best thing that has ever happened to him.
The 18-year-old forward has signed a new three-year deal which should keep him at Fratton until the end of the 17-18 season.
It comes after a storming start to the season in which goals against Championship sides Derby and Reading in the League Cup and a double against Barnet on his full league debut have seen him become of the fans' favourites in this new-look squad.
He told the club website: 'I’m delighted to have extended my contract — it’s probably the best thing that has happened to me. I’ve never made any secret of the fact that I want to play my football with Pompey and it means everything to know I will be here for another three years.
'I was always confident of scoring goals at this level, but I just never quite expected it to happen so quickly. Although I come from Worthing, I have been here since I was a small kid and know everything there is to know about the club.
'When the fans sing ‘He’s one of our own’ about me, I get goosebumps, as I really am Pompey through and through.'
