Saints Stay 7th For Christmas

A late late injury time goal for Liverpool by ex Saint Sadio Mane sent Everton to defeat in the Merseyside Derby meaning that Saints stay above Ronald Koeman and in 7th place at Christmas.

Saints fans haven't had a lot of love for Liverpool FC over the past couple of years, but they had cause to thank the Reds and four of the ex Saints in the starting line up at Goodison Park this evening as the 1-0 win with a goal in the 4th minute of injury time meant that Everton now stay below Saints in the Premier League table.

That will have much satisfaction for Saints supporters who felt badly let down by Ronald Koeman who seemed to throw all of his principles out of the window when Everton finally found his price after much pestering.

Since then Koeman has never seemed totally at ease in his new surroundings and after a great start the Blues have gone steadily downhill leading to many Everton fans questioning Koeman's ability to restore them to the levels they want to see the club at.

A draw against their rivals from across Stanley Park would have been enough to put Everton above Saints for Christmas, not on points, not on goal difference but goals scored. Although this would have been a decent position for Saints in 8th there was a moral victory to be had.

But Mane's late goal kept Everton a point behind Saints and gives us the satisfaction of seeing our new boss Claude Puel out performing our old one Ronald Koeman.

So a good result for Saints caps a weekend that has seen us not only find our goalscoring form but pushed us up the League, I for one although bitterly disappointed about the manner of our exit from the Europa League would have taken 7th in the League with a League cup semi final to look foward to in January if that was offered to me at the start of the season.

Time now to get behind Claude Puel and his squad, we cannot change the past so there is no point in harping back to it, we need to move forward and hopefully make this a better season than the last.
