One to keep an eye on? 11:28 - Sep 12 with 913 views | Whiterockin | Stockport assistant coach Andy Mangan has been denied a move to Real Madrid after his work permit was rejected. The former Tranmere and Shrewsbury striker was on the verge of joining the La Liga champions to work under boss Carlo Ancelotti, with the switch subject to a work permit. But the 38-year-old's application, which could have taken up to nine months to process, is understood to have been rejected by the Spanish government and the move is currently off. Mangan had worked with Ancelotti's son, Davide, who is part of the staff at Madrid, while doing his Uefa coaching badges. He joined Stockport in the summer after they won League Two under manager Dave Challinor. The Hatters are currently unbeaten and second in League One after four games. Ex-forward Mangan spent his playing career in the lower leagues and featured for Tranmere, Forest Green and Accrington and won promotion from the National League three times. He also worked with Joey Barton at Fleetwood and Bristol Rovers as first-team coach and was caretaker at Rovers after Barton's dismissal in 2023. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/czxlv9ndvkdo

Not sure why there is such a problem for him. There are several routes for him. Applying for Spanish residency for the period of time he is in Spain, initially it’s five years but he can shorten that easily. That gives you permission to work, your employers pay your NI equivalent and you get a pension in time. Must be more to this.

Working with Joey Barton can't look good on your CV.

According to the BBC, the charge relates to a match between Bury and Accrington Stanley, before which Mangan is alleged to have placed stakes to the value of approximately £3,500. The Football Association subsequently fined Mangan £2,000 and banned him from playing for five months."

A Welsh footballer was banned for four years for dodging or fabrication a drugs check. The whole integrity of the game is at stake and more important than a kid playing with cocaine. Plaquetta is flourishing and if guilt needs the book thrown at him.
