Boro Game A Must Win For Rams

Sorry 1960 but it was over when our arthritic team lost to Sunderland.

The 3-1 win by Burton Albion seems to adequately sum up my earlier post about our ageing Derby team. This is a place where older players come to pasture out before retirement and as Baird proves weekly you can turn your back on shots to deflect them into the path of opposing forwards to score and still get picked. Maybe you cannot get picked for Norwich like Jerome but hey, Derby will sign you for an inflated price even if you cannot control a ball. Throughout football we are humiliatingly known as the BOTTLERS and rightly so. How much more can our supporters take?

As I said before he created more space for our players as he buzzed up and down the wing.

I wholeheartedly agree with you 1960. Like good wine he improved with age this year and although his goal tally was low his efforts box to box made the opposition commit 2 to 3 players around him creating more space for the rest of the team. No surprise that our flat form began when he left.

Watched the 1-1 draw at Brentford and was underwhelmed by our level of skill and possession. We are going nowhere this season and I truly believe finishing 14th would be an overachievement. Considering the amount of dosh we splashed, how the hell did we get in this mess?

This is the joint announcement I expect in the coming week :- In association with the EFL and Players Union Welfare Derby County are to open a rest and rehabilitation centre behind the training centre for old and disabled players, all at Derby's expense.

Cup Football
at 19:23 13 Sep 2017

Before I start this rant can I say Gary Rowett is a good manager and like Warnock can man manage with the best but here goes:- The Carabao Cup appears to have been a thorn in the side of our manager and he has virtually kicked any fixtures into touch by selecting weak teams. Why should supporters pay good money to travel away on a terrible night to watch a second string team. With stronger selection we could have won but I don't think the manager cared. One last thought. When the F A cup starts will we throw that away as well?

It seems as if every season we try to subject our supporters to ever more humiliation. Against Sheff U we did not give 1 goal away, not even 2 goals away but 3, do me an effing favour. How many more ridiculous statistics do we have to suffer.
On an ironic note can I say the only positive was Russells brilliant low drive for the second goal. If that had been at the other end it would have sailed 10 feet over the bar. Still we have dinosaur centre forwards that even at my age I might be able to catch.

aug 2017: my view of current squad
at 11:58 13 Aug 2017

A question: with the likes of Huddersfield and Wolves improving through a policy of buying overseas...........why aren't we? From what I hear and read we are just trying to bring in new players from England who will not radically improve the team.

Defence: better than last year.
Midfield: slightly better.
Forwards: Same old same old.

Revising my last ironic post I am now confident we will exceed 54 points so let us burst that number by felling the trees. COYR!

With the latest defeat by Blackburn I am starting to panic because we need at least 54 points to save us from relegation and I do not think our players or manager are up to it. Every club who's next fixture is against the Rams must be rubbing their hands in anticipation. What a bloody mess.

The Derby Enigma. Oct 2016.
at 12:54 27 Nov 2016

4 on the bounce and counting.....WOW! Apparently the BIGMAC now has an identicle start to his first spell as boss : won 5 drawn2 lost1. What surprised me most was for the first time this season we physically outlasted the opposition which means all the player are now fully committed to giving 110%. As a person who watched Derby in Brian Cloughs hey day can I give a special mention to Vydra and Wiemann as they skilfully kept wasting time down by the corner flag in the last few minutes.......reminiscent of our old glory boys at their best.

I had doubts when the BIG MAC was re-employed but now (after an easy win over Rotherham) I am inclined to pat Mel on the back for what is beginning to look like a superb appointment. The big test is Norwich. Win that one and we could be on our way to the top six from what seemed an impossible position. For me 2 big pluses are the form of Pearce and Max Lowe. COYR!

Could it be Time For Charles Vernam?

A few weeks ago I would have laughed at your suggestion but as a team who are trying to bag another worst record (the lowest goals in one season) you could be spot on, and why is Ince still considered a first team player. For too long his input has been nil and Wiemann must be scratching his head.

The Derby Enigma. Oct 2016.

As always our beloved team are giving hope and disappointment in equal measure as we bemused supporters watch this average season wend its way towards Christmas. Personally I think we will struggle to get a top 6 place but football has a funny way of turning all predictions on their head. Okay Mac is back and maybe he will sprinkle some magic dust around the IPro and obtain that miracle, but I doubt it. So what is the problem. The way I see it we have some very good players but the mix is wrong for the systems we play and only the manager can sort that out with some astute signings around the turn of the year.
Imagine the most perfect 100 piece jigsaw puzzle that is complete but the manufacturers have 3 types of cut and the box you have bought has a mixture of all 3 jig cuts, yes the full picture is there but the puzzle cannot be completed because the pieces do not fit.
This is the way I see our current team, imperfect, not because we do not have the talent but because the pieces just do not gel so here's to the future and Mac solving the puzzle that is the Derby enigma.

So, Steve Starts Off With a Win
at 16:56 16 Oct 2016

I sincerely hope so but too early to tell about the season yet. Yes we won but we seriously weakened the team in the last few minutes again and only 6 inches saved us from the usual result. The two most pleasing results of this win over Leeds for me were the precocious talent of Lowe and the emerging strength of Pearce.

After watching 120 minutes of the Carlisle game I was lost for words. How can so many footballers be so inept when it comes to shooting the ball between the posts, after all they train every day and shooting accurately must be a part of the training. So I began to watch the penalty taking with some trepidation but surprise sureprise my feelings were out of kilter with the reality. To say Derby were good was an understatement, they were terrific, so here is the dilemma, if they are that accurate from the spot how come they cannot do it from 20 yards?

I believe Pearson is an excellent choice and in tandem with Powell (who is also a very experienced manager) will prove to be a wise choice. Well done Mel and Sam.
