The RamZone Christmas Countdown - 12 Ram Records!
The RamZone Christmas Countdown - 12 Ram Records!
Tuesday, 14th Dec 2010 09:49 by Daniel J Sewart

With only 12 days left until Christmas, RamsZone is getting into the spirit by presenting a countdown of DCFC facts each day until December 25th.

Twelve days till the big man delivers the goodies (no not Tim, Graeme and Bill!!) and our countdown begins with 12 Rams records achieved by the club and its players over its long and colourful history.

These are just selection of records picked at random but feel free to add your favourite Ram records in the comments section below. There is nothing like sharing with your fellow fans in this time of giving and sharing.

With 12 Days Till Christmas RamZone Gave To Me – 12 Rams Records!

1.

Rams legend Steve Bloomer scored the most Derby County goals in a single league match when he scored 6 against Sheffield Wednesday. He also holds the record for most Derby County goals netting 293 times in the Football League over his two spells with the Rams. Bloomer scored 332 goals overall in his Derby career.

2.

Kevin Hector holds the record for the most number of appearances for the Rams with an amazing 478 League games between his 1966-78 and 1980-1982. Zak appeared 581 times overall for the Rams.

3.

Kevin Hector also holds the record for becoming the first English player to score against an Italian club on Italian soil. He scored the Rams solitary goal in the 3-1 loss to Juventus during the European Cup on 11 April 1973.

4.

The Rams record for highest attendance came against Tottenham Hotspur when they were in Division 1. On the 20 September 1969, 41,826 fans crammed into the stands of The Baseball Ground.

The record attendance for Pride Park was surprisingly for a testimonial match. The match honoured Ted McMinn on May 1st 2006 when a team of Derby County legends played Glasgow Rangers XI. The thrilling match played in the best of spirits ended 3-3 in front of a bumper crowd of 33,475.

5.

The highest scoring cup victory was the runaway 12-0 win over Finn Harps in the 1st round of the UEFA Cup in 1976. Perhaps we can aim to better that in the first round of the FA cup this season…. well you never know!

6.

The first ever Premiership goal scored by a Derby player was at the Baseball Ground on the 17 August 1996. Dean Sturridge took the honours during a hard fought 3-3 draw with Leeds United. Shame you couldn’t have bagged one more that day Deano!

7.

The last goal scored at the Baseball ground was tucked away by Ashley Ward. It came against Arsenal in a 3-1 defeat on 11 May 1997. Ward also looked to have scored the first ever goal at Pride Park but the power did fail him when the floodlights failed and the match against Wimbledon was abandoned.

8.

The first official goal scored at Pride Park was scored by Stefano Eranio in a 1-0 win over Barnsley on the 30 August, 1997. The power stayed on this time.

9.

The record transfer fee spent by the Rams was when Billy D handed over £3,500,000 to Norwich City in 2007 for Robert Earnshaw. He re-paid every penny as he proceeded to spend most of the season not scoring or warming the bench. He then moved to Forest with Billy where they lived un-promoted ever-after.

10.

The record transfer fee received for a Rams player was £7,000,000 (rising to £9,000,000) paid by Leeds United for Seth Johnson in 2001. The purchase was part of a mad spending spree by the Damned United. Seth was kind enough to return many years later and play a massive part in securing promotion for the Rams. Cheers Seth!

11.

Branko Strupar had the honour of scoring the first Premiership goal of the new millennium, when 2 minutes had ticked over during the Rams vs. Watford (Jan 3rd, 2000) and he tucked away his historic strike.  Super Strupar!

12.

The youngest player to ever pull on a Rams shirt was Lee Holmes at the tender age of 15 years and 268 days in December of 2002.

On the subject of young… at 17 years and 195 days then Derby defender Lewin Nyatanga, became the youngest full international to play for Wales. (The record was later broken by Gareth Bale - 16 years and 315 days)

Perhaps Robbie Savage is set to become the oldest?

Fingers crossed Sav… if so, I promise to include you in the 12 next Christmas!!

Tomorrow: The Rams Starting 11!
