QPR begin a busy December of travelling with a trip to Anfield to face Liverpool. Here are all the usual hints and tips for those making the journey.

Ground Name: Anfield

Capacity: 45,362

Address: Anfield Road, Liverpool, L4 0TH

Telephone: 0151 260 1433

Ticket Office: 0151 260 8680

By Car

It’s about 210 miles up the M1 and M6 for QPR fans travelling from London to this one, a journey time of just shy of four hours at the speed limit. Once you’ve done the long slog up the M1 and M6 join the M62 at junction 21a towards Liverpool and follow it to its conclusion. Then join the A5058 towards Liverpool and then after three miles turn left at the lights next to the McDonalds into Utting Avenue. Travel down Utting for one mile and then go right at the Arkles pub for the ground.

Parking

Street parking should be available around the ground for those arriving before 1pm, although expect the local scallies to request a ‘mind ya car Mr’ fee. Failing that the other side of Stanley Park around Goodison Park is probably the best bet – either on the streets or in the Everton car park which charges a tenner. The guide also recommends the dockers club 15 minutes away, off the A580, which is where Waterloo Dock play their home matches – you can park there for a fiver.

Train

Ostensibly it’s London Euston to Liverpool Lime Street via Virgin Trains for this one, but given that the cheapest tickets available are £70 return QPR fans have been getting rather creative with their options. Try a return to Chester from where a local service runs into Liverpool every 15 minutes – currently available at £55 return. Change at Northampton and go for £36.50 return or £51 return via Crewe.

Plenty of suggestions to dodge the rip off here.

Once in Liverpool local stopping services run from Central station to Sandhills where shuttle bus services run to the ground. Taxis from the city centre cost £7 and it’s about two and a half miles to walk – although we walked most of the way back from Goodison in August without it seeming like too much of a trek.

Coach

The official coach will leave Loftus Road at 8.30am and the Target roundabout at 9am. This is priced £32 adults, £21 seniors and young adults, and £19 for under 16s with the usual discounts for season ticket holders.

No news of an LSA coach as yet.

LoftforWords’ regular Mel Huckridge (Norfolt) is intending to run a coach at 8am from the Target at £25 a head, but is awaiting interest and seeing who gets tickets in the away end. Register interest at this thread.

Tickets

QPR took a full allocation of 3,024 tickets for this fixture and all the unrestricted and partially restricted view tickets have now sold out. The severely restricted view seats, at the back of the stand under a low hanging roof, are available priced £41 adults, £31.50 seniors and £12 for under 16s.

Pubs

Most Rangers fans arriving by train will no doubt hang around in the city centre. Nearer the ground The Arkles pub mentioned in the directions is traditionally the away fans’ haunt but that can be crowded with queues to get in after 1pm. Try the Flat Iron if so, a mixed but friendly pub a five minute walk away.
