Despite their loan striker doing his job, Derby was unable to hold onto their lead and keep a rampant West Ham at bay. Another loss and more tumbling down the table – time to panic?

Match Summary:

During the first half Derby defied the tipsters when Jamie Ward picked out loanee Tamas Priskin, who on his first match for the Rams, finished brilliantly in the 35th-minute finish.

Unfortunately the away team could not hang on to their lead when Carlton Cole pulled West Ham level just moments before half-time when he converted Joey O'Brien's first-time cross with a brilliant header.

In the second half West Ham slowly turned the screws and after a sensational 20 yard volley from Kevin Nolan, the turn around was complete when Craig Bryson gave away a clumsy penalty which Mark Noble converted from the spot.

Manager’s Reaction:

Nigel Clough chose to blame luck instead of his team:

"Things didn't really go our way today, we started pretty well and got a brilliant goal through Tamas Priskin.”

"If we had got to half time a goal in front I think it would have been a totally different game. Carlton Cole's goal gave them a lift just before the break and it allowed West Ham to come out in the second half and put us under pressure.”

"We felt a bit hard done by with the free-kick that resulted in the equalising and it's little things like that which aren't going our way at the moment. The bounce of the ball and key decisions aren't going in our favour but we have to keep working hard to turn it around."

"It was a lovely finish and we're pleased to see him get off the mark so early. He showed with that finish he is capable of scoring goals and hopefully there's more to come from him."

"It wasn't a gamble putting them all in as they needed to start a game sooner rather than later. They'll be fitter for it, but of course it wasn't ideal throwing them all in at once. It was a tough game to come in to but they've got game time under their belts and they'll only get fitter from this point onwards."

Captain’s Reaction:

The Rams returning Captain wants the team to stay positive:

"My return at Upton Park wasn't quite the dream return I had planned but we must keep positive. Losing four in a row is something we're not happy about but we're not too worried because we all know what this group is capable of.”

"We can't take anything for granted in this division and I really believe a win isn't far away. Brighton will pose a pretty tough test for us on Tuesday but we've got to make the most of playing at Pride Park and try to get three points.”

"We've lost two on the trot at home so there's no way we want it to be extended to three on Tuesday. We just need to spread positives vibes around the place, we certainly don't want our heads dropping and feeling sorry for ourselves."
