Midfielder Josh Carson is hoping to impress new Northern Ireland boss Michael O’Neill and add to his two full caps while away with his national side this week. The 18-year-old, who signed a new Town contract last week, joined up with the Northern Irish squad on Monday for Wednesday’s friendly against Norway in Belfast.

Carson told the club site: "I'm really looking forward to it and hopefully I will get a chance to show what I can do.

"It's a new era for Northern Ireland with the new manager coming in and I have to impress him and show him I'm worth keeping in the squad.

"I've been lucky enough to have played for my country a couple of times before at senior level and they are special memories. Hopefully I will get another opportunity against Norway."

The only other Town player away on international duty this week is central defender Tommy Smith, who New Zealand coach Ricki Herbert says will win his ninth full cap in Wednesday’s friendly against Jamaica in Auckland, although he’s yet to decide on his starting XI: "We will definitely have a look at guys like Chris Wood, Marco Rojas, Kosta Barbarouses, Tommy Smith and Winston Reid."

Elsewhere, former Blue Ian Westlake has left MLS side Montreal Impact. The 28-year-old initially joined the Canadian club last summer, re-signing in December ahead of their inaugural MLS campaign.
