Webber arrives and Parker returns

Another day, another couple of stories about short term signings. Leeds have signed former Portsmouth and Sheffield United player Danny Webber on until the end of the season, and Ben Parker has returned from his loan spell at Carlisle United.

Leeds have been able to sign 30-year-old Webber outside the transfer window as he’s been a free agent since his contract expired at the Portsmouth last summer. So on the face of it he’s not a signing that will set our pulses racing, but Neil Warnock knows him, and he’ll be a useful squad member as he can play either up front or out wide.

Webber has scored 50 goals in almost 250 career appearances and after starting out at Manchester United, he had successful spells at both Watford and Sheffield United (while Warnock was their manager) efore moving to Fratton Park. Before we came in he was considering a move to China, but now he‘s due to make his first appearance in a Leeds shirt in tonight’s behind-closed-doors game against Middlesbrough.

Warnock was looking for another wide attacking player after the unexpected departure of Andros Townsend and told the official site “I know the player well and he’ll be good to have around the place.”

Meanwhile defender Ben Parker has returned to Elland Road after coming to the end of his month’s loan at Carlisle United. The Cumbrian club have been very pleased with his form, but have ended his spell as their regular left back Matt Robson has recovered from an injury. The 24 year old made five appearances during his stay at Brunton Park and he scored his first league goal against Chesterfield, with his performance in that game earning him a place in the Football League One Team of the Week.

Carlisle manager Greg Abbot told the Carlisle News and Star said, "Ben came in and gave us 100 per cent at a time when he desperately wanted to be out on the pitch. He fitted in well and he really bought into what we are trying to achieve, and he is one who will get better and better the more he plays. We really enjoyed having him with us and we wish him all the best for the rest of the season."

Parker will also be playing in the friendly against Middlesbrough and will be hoping to impress Neil Warnock in his latest attempt get his injury-ravaged Leeds career back on track.
