Mad Max II
Mad Max II

The ever-reliable SportsMail report that Neil Warnock wants to re-sign Max Gradel, I suppose we could all do with some good news in the wake of the Luciano Becchio bombshell and ongoing concerns about the financial health of the club.

Throughout Thursday I was reading quotes on other websites about Gradel's eagerness to come back but actually all he was saying is he would love to return to the English game at some stage and I seem to have read the same quote for the past six months.

Gradel moved for around £2m to St Etienne in August 2011, Leeds making a massive profit on the £200,000 we bought him from Leicester for in 2009. Exactly where he will fit into a Neil Warnock side is anyone's guess?

Maybe Warnock has had a vision of life without Luciano and will adapt a more cultured style of play? I'm sorry folks but given the seemingly worrying state of affairs at Elland Road regarding cash flow, I just cannot see Mad Max coming back even on loan.

A revealing interview with Alan Tate on Talksport on Thursday gave an insight into life behind the scenes at ER with Tate virtually saying Leeds let him go early because they needed him off the wage-bill to enable Warnock to try and strengthen in other areas.

Tate was apparently available for just £250,000, Leeds however appear to have got cold feet and opted to extend his loan instead which ultimately was cut-short.

Tate also revealed that Becchio has attracted interest from clubs in China.

In a strongly worded statement, Leeds revealed that they had offered Becchio a new-deal which he flatly refused.

Like Messers Snodgrass, Howson, Gradel, Schmeichel and Beckford before him, the Becchio situation is a recurring nightmare.
