Roberto reveals he will lean on Liverpool to keep Ando

Roberto is friendly with Rafa Benitez and it is that friendship that brought Ando to Swansea in the first place where he has been an instant hit despite his two month injury absence.  The winger has grabbed 8 goals in just 29 starts for the Swans and was an influential part of the side that built such a huge lead at the top of the division.

Ironically he was denied a return to Anfield when the Swans were humiliated by Havant & Waterlooville in the FA Cup but Roberto said earlier in the week that he wants to keep him beyond his current loan deal and admitted today that he plans to nudge the Liverpool manager to make that happen.

Speaking in the News of the World, Martinez said "We want to keep Paul beyond this season and we'll do all we can to make that happen.

"Rafa may not want that but I may have to give him a gentle nudge to persuade him.  I have known Rafa well for some time know so I'm hoping that our good working relationship will work in Swansea's favour.

"Paul's still young so I'm hoping another year here will do him good.  He has enjoyed his time here and improved as an all-round player.   He has improved us and we've improved him and being able to keep someone like Paul will certainly help us progress as a club."
