Jason Taylor faces three games on the sidelines following his sending off on Saturday, but the club remain hopeful that an appeal could be successful.

Taylor was sent off during Saturday afternoon's 4-2 win over Accrington, and was getting rave reviews for his performance from Dale supporters at the game until his dismissal.

His sending off came for an off the ball incident in which Accrington's Michael Symes was also shown a red card. The two came together on the floor in an incident that was missed by most in attendance.

The red card will ensure that Taylor will miss the games against Grimsby, Chesterfield and Bournemouth - the latter being games that no doubt his parent club Rotherham would have liked him to have played and influenced. His next available game for Dale will be the trip to Torquay on Saturday 10th April.

However, Dale boss Keith Hill hinted after the game on Saturday that the club could look to appeal the sending off. Hill said: I don't think there was much in the sending off other than a bit of handbags and I'm sure both teams will appeal against the red cards. We can't afford to lose players for three games, especially as we only have a squad of 17 outfield players, and to be honest I don't really want to recruit anybody else.

"I don't think the referee saw the incident, nor the linesman, so I don't know where the referee took his advice or evidence from."

The Accrington striker was of a similar opinion, telling the local media: “It was just a bit of a scuffle on the floor, it was just handbags. I don’t know why he sent the pair of us off and now I’m going to miss three games."

Should Taylor's ban remain in place, then Hill will have a ready made replacement in the form of Ciaron Toner.
