Rally to Defend

Steve Jones spoke for the whole of the Swansea City squad today by declaring his full support for manager John Hollins. "We are 100 per cent behind the manager," declared Jones. "We always have been and always will be. "Obviously the pressure is on because we are not getting the results, but at the end of the day it is the players who go out there to get the results. "The manager, or assistant Alan Curtis, can't do a lot once we are on the pitch. If we don't perform then we are answerable to them. "Okay, the FA Cup has gone now, but we have got to concentrate on getting out of the bottom four. That is our priority. "I think our first-half display at Bournemouth showed we can play football and battle. "We've got to keep going at it and I'm convinced we will get the points to take us up the League." Swansea face difficult away games at Cambridge, Northampton, Wycombe and a return to Bournemouth before Christmas, with just one home game against Bristol Rovers scheduled for December 2. But Hollins remained in determined mood today that his side will turn the corner. "My players are not down and anyone who says so are watching different games to me," he said. "We showed plenty of fight. I cannot believe we lost that game and are out of the FA Cup. But we have enough ammunition to survive in the Second Division. Hollins could be tempted to play his first team in the FAW Premier Cup tie against Connah's Quay at Vetch Field tomorrow night in a confidence-boosting exercise.
