A Petty Blow As Ellington Kills Off Swansea

Home >Story Index> Bristol Rovers 4 Swansea City 1

Words are very had to find after the disastrous events of Tuesday that ended with a spirited Swans side losing 4-1 at The Memorial Ground in Bristol. The inquisition went on all around us as the off the pitch debacle took over the game in front of us. It takes a lot to dampen the spirits of 500 Swans fans who tried their very best to get behind the team. To cap it all the most inept referee to grace the football league took to the pitch in a Bristol Rovers jersey ( or so it seemed ) and gave The Pirates a very questionable penalty after The Swans had totally dominated proceedings beforehand. The main problem being Swansea City did not have a Nathan Ellington to call upon to take the many chances Swansea created. The first half was concluded with yet another dubious free kick being given to Rovers who from a three pass move took a 2-0 lead.
It's very hard to know what Swansea City side you are going to get these days. But you have to give credit to all of the Swans players as they again dominated possession in the second half and again jealous looks were given to Ellington who looked like he would have scored six had he been given the chances Swansea were creating. Watkin missed a sitter, a goal line clearance, chance after chance to get in to the box passed The Swans by, and on the break Rovers showed their goal class when Ellington rammed home a third from outside the area. Within minutes ( at last ) Watkin got some space and cleverly scored from 15 yards and The Swans again bombarded the Rovers goal to no avail. Freestone pulled off three stunning saves as The Swans were hit on the break and both Mumford and Cusack should have done better when in on goal. Brody looked really busy hassling and fighting for possession, a real battler when he is needed, but it just wouldn't happen for our brave battlers. It was unjust that Ellington rounded off a superb display to get a hat trick with seven minutes left. Swansea had further chances but the fight had gone, Addison with his head in his hands must have been cursing the AWOL Sidibe, if only he could have played.
Second half subs in Phillips and Lacey added something when they came on but the news of the day that the sale has fallen through, and there is little hope left makes the headlines. And as we all headed off home to different corners of the country there was an eerie silence. I spoke to Roger Freestone as the team bus headed back to Wales who was so choked he could hardly speak, like all of us today there seems little hope left, and our club falls maybe to it's last fighting position. On it's knees with only a flaying wing to keep the vultures away from killing us. If there is any fight left at The Vetch Field or on the terraces this is our final chance to do ......
Something ?
I'm so gutted today it tears at my heart to even think that my club, the team I have supported since it was a Town, that team from Fortress Vetch that has given me so much pleasure has been murdered by people who are not even worth the paper their birth certificates are printed on.
JACKARMY.NET COMMENT
And if this is the end of Swansea City FC, we pledge, they will never rest in pace - Never, they and we include the following people have murdered a proud football club.
Neil Mcclure, Steve Hamer, Peter Day, Mike Lewis, Tony Petty, John Shuttleworth and the man who will never rest until The Morfa has been built - Keith Harris. You are our killers, and your charge ? For bleeding us dry, for taking what was not yours, for doing nothing, for lying to everyone, for having the face to take the name of Swansea City AFC and treat it as your own, to manipulate, to fabricate and divide. And then do nothing whilst we fall with our hands around our heads, you are to blame, and if you ever have another restful nights sleep we hope your dreams are so shattering the light of day never crosses your faces again.
Take heed - You killed our club, and not one of you has the right to even purport to be anything other than total and utter SCUM.
We will never forget you, never ........
