Shambles As Cup Tie Falls To The Weather

Home > Story Index >Questions To Be Answered

One small thing is that Swansea will now be in the second round draw when it is made but this is just the kind of thing that Brian Flynn and his team could do without after travelling up to Yorkshire yesterday.
However, the postponement of the game is bound to leave certain questions needing answers. York's squad was ravaged by injuries and suspensions and no doubt the postponement is more of a benefit to them than it is to us. Some people at York say that the pitch was playable and that the Swansea team were not happy with the postponement, feeling that they have seen worse pitches deemed playable.
Of course, there will never be an announcement to that effect but it must have been some shower that the official site is referring to to make a pitch go from playable to unplayable in that short period of time.
Swansea's travelling support for the game was estimated to be around 500 and all travelling Jacks will have found themselves on the road and nearly in York before they were informed of the match being cancelled. Official supporters buses we are told were turned straight round and instead will now spend their Saturday afternoon travelling back South (at least they may get back to Swansea for a pint now!)
But the biggest question remains as we said earlier. Is this one game that was postponed a little easier than it could have been to give the York side a little time to recover from their problems - if so then more fingers will be pointed.
Whichever way, a trip to York with the overnight stop has set the club back a serious amount of money at a time when we can little afford it. That's the 'magic' of the FA Cup?
