Brian Flynn has again advised that he will field a seperate team in each half against the Dr Martens League side with the only person present on Friday likely to be missing is Roger Freestone who was carried off at the end of the win against Port Talbot.
Trialists Karl Connolly, Steve Nicholas and Andy Robinson will again be given chance to shine after all making impressive contributions on Friday night. Although Swansea will not have such a big following this time around they will still be supportedby a decent number before taking to the road again at the end of the week to partake in the Bradford City centenary tournament and then heading off to Holland for what is becoming a traditional pre-season trip.
It was certainly an impressive start on Friday by Flynn's men. Much has been said about the quality of the opening opposition but the sides still have to be beaten which in recent years is not necessarily what has happened. There was a touch of hunger about some of the players on Friday night and that can only be a good thing.
Flynn himself would have been pleased with what he saw and he told the Evening Post "It's nice to win, it's a nice habit. But the key to it is August 9. If we win every pre-season game that doesn't mean we will win the first game against Bury and vice versa. In terms of what we asked the players to do, they did well."
Brian Murphy looks likely to be given a chance now in the games ahead to prove his worth and he told today's Wales on Sunday "I want to progress as a player and I know that the only way to do that is by playing regularly. There's big ambition here and some quality players. In the end the decision is going to come down to what's right for me. |
