Comings & Goings At The Liberty

Signs Of Movement At Liberty

The emergency loan window closes tomorrow and there are signs of movement at the Liberty Stadium despite comments earlier this week that there was unlikely to be any.

On the inside there are rumours around Swansea that a midfielder may be joining on loan with a view to a permanent move. A post on one guestbook suggests that it is someone dropping down from a Championship Club to join us whilst posts on the message board here suggest that it is a midfielder from Accrington Stanley. (Who are they?)

The rumours around the championship midfielder have been there all week with former Man Utd midfielder Ronnie Wallwork mentioned several times with nothing concrete to back it up. He has though been told by his current club, West Brom, that they will allow him to leave on loan. Add to that the fact that he has had talks with Barnsley and you have something very unlikely.

We were also linked last weekend with a move for Luke Guttridge although Jackett himself said that the move for him was dead in the water.

Moving down to the league new boys Accrington Stanley and it is hard to see which midfielder would attract our interest although Ian Craney, who has been capped by England at non league level looks a decent prospect especially with five goals from midfield this season. Andrew Proctor is another capped by England at non league level and was Stanley's young player of the year in 2004.

On the movement out, the only possible movement will concern out of favour striker Leon Knight. Knight is attracting interest again from Northampton whilst Barnsley fans are convinced that he will sign for them tomorrow.

"I'm not going to take anyone unless they can improve the squad," said cobblers manager John Gorman, who has Knight's name on a four-strong striker wish list.

"I did make an enquiry about the player but there was nothing concrete.

"But I was a bit shocked when it came out in the press. I don't say anything about my players until something substantial comes of it."

Barnsley's Rivals site are convinced that the move is on and Knight's interesting, if brief, stay in Swansea could be coming to an end.
