"Ferrie Is A Loyal Player"

The man who mentored Ferrie Bodde from a young age declares his man as a loyal player after his decision to stay at Swansea

Lex Schoenmaker was the man who tutored Ferrie at Den Haag and he claimed that he can play on both the Premiership and international stage such is his ability.

It has been a long summer for Ferrie but he committed his immediate future to Swansea last week but the interest in the player did not surprise Schoenmaker who told the Wales on Sunday “Why wouldn’t Ferrie have attracted interest? He is definitely good enough to play in the Premiership.

“He was always a player that everybody would watch and then go away thinking about how good he was.

“They were always impressed and that was because they liked the way he played football.

“He is a very good passer of the ball, he has a good footballing brain and he is a very important player for whichever team he is playing in.

“I’m confident he will go on to be a great success in the Premiership. So long as he is physically fit, it won’t be a problem for him.

“If he gets to the Premiership, he could definitely feature in the national team. If a Dutch player is in the Premier League, the national coaches notice them.

“Once Dutch players get to that level, they tend to play for the national team. That will be the same for Ferrie.”

He also warned that Swans fans are yet to see the best of Ferrie which in itself is an exciting thought “Ferrie isn’t in his prime yet and his ability to read the game will keep getting better.

“He certainly isn’t playing at as high a level as he could be yet.

“As Ferrie showed at Den Haag, staying for many years, he is a loyal player.

“It took a lot to leave and I’m sure he will be loyal to Swansea if they want him to stay.

“But if a big offer came in from a big club it could end up being good for both in the future.

“Swansea only made a small investment in Ferrie and they should get a lot more in return.”

Ferrie arrived in Swansea last summer with the reputation as the Dutch Roy Keane and two red cards - against Doncaster and Leeds - saw him live up to that reputation although he was only booked once following that red card against Leeds but Schoenmaker does not think that is anything to worry about “Ferrie will have no problems at this level because he has enough ability to be successful and I don’t think there will be much change in his game.

“He always wanted to become a player like Roy Keane. He was his idol growing up and he has tried to copy his style.

“Unfortunately, like Keane, he is still a bit too aggressive at times.

“ He told me he had only been sent off once last season, but we know he gets more cards than that.

“It has always been a problem for him. But it’s just something you accept with Ferrie.”
