Joe Allen declares his goal against Cardiff at Ninian Park as a dream come true

Swansea City's young star had seemingly given the Swans a victory at Ninian Park with his strike three minutes from time but a late penalty from Ross McCormack ended that dream for Allen.

It was his first goal in Swans colours and could not have come at a better time as he celebrated with the 1650 travelling contingent.

Speaking to the Western Mail after the game, Allen said “I was absolutely delighted to score, but it made what happened afterwards with the penalty even more disappointing for me.

“I went through such a range of emotions, especially with the goals coming so late on. I thought it would have been enough to win us the game, but unfortunately it didn’t work out.

“I’m not going to lie, I thought the goal had sealed it. But everyone knows anything is possible until the final whistle and unfortunately it wasn’t to be.

“It was a dream come true for me to score. Having played for Swansea for so long and waited for this game for such a long time, to score my first goal against Cardiff was something special.”

Allen's after goal celebration earned him a yellow card but that was not on his list of regrets as he looked back on the magical moment “Emotion just takes full control of you,” he beamed. “I didn’t think twice about going into the crowd because I was just so excited and you could see they felt the same.”
