Ashley Williams has urged Welsh fans to forget club allegiances on international day after he was booed at Cardiff on Saturday

The Swansea City defender captained his country for the first time and was subjected to jeers at times when he touched the ball to hos own disappointment.

It seemed that comments he made after the Swans victory over Cardiff had not gone down well but Ash put that behind him and urged the fans to back whoever was selected by John Toshack regardless of who they played for "We're playing for Wales, we're going out there to represent our country." he told the Evening Post

"I've been talking to (Cardiff midfielder) Joe Ledley all week.

"We've been joking, it's not a problem after the game.

"We've put that to bed.

"It's good the banter between the clubs. I think that's the beauty of football, we want to keep that in it.

"But when we come together, I think you should support all the boys.

"I don't think the booing affected Joe, I thought he played well and he's a strong character, but it isn't nice.

"Singing the anthem and bringing the boys out was the proudest moment of my career," he said.

"We all know who the captain is and that's fine, but if I'm ever called to do it again, I'll be more than happy.

"I really enjoyed it, it was the favourite game of my career.

"It's been a dream week for me and we topped it off with a great win.

"I think we played well. Before the game we said we need to grow up a little bit and show what we can do instead of using age as an excuse.

"I think today is the start of things to come, hopefully, and we showed what we can do.

"I enjoyed it. I'm not sure I'd want to do it all the time, but while we've got no-one else I can do it, get involved a bit more and hopefully do a good job in there," said the 25-year-old.

"And it was pleasing to get a win against one of the home nations like Scotland."
