Bothroyd "Disappointed" In Huw Jenkins

Jay Bothroyd declares he will never do 'a Sol Campbell' and switch to the Liberty Stadium

It does seem that Swansea City's 'bid' for the player was very much tongue in cheek but still it appears to warrant column inches in the press with Bothroyd now saying that he would never betray Cardiff fans with a move down west.

Huw Jenkins himself said over the weekend that the conversation was just part of a regular chat with Dave Jones where he was talking about players he would like to move on and as soon as Cardiff's asking price for Bothroyd of £3m was mentioned the conversation went no further.

“Swansea’s chairman said he enquired about me, but I’ve got no interest in going there,” said Bothroyd when speaking to the Western Mail .

“I’m happy at Cardiff, even though I’m not from Cardiff, I regard myself as a Cardiff boy.

“I love the fans, I love the place and I don’t see myself taking that sort of step going to a rival.

“I was a bit disappointed when I saw it in the paper. I think their chairman has got to be a bit more professional. Maybe he was mischief-making.

“I feel like I’m playing well and, if you are doing that, perhaps clubs desire your services. But I am happy at Cardiff.

“I want to be here and enjoy my football. I want it to flourish here.

“Swansea are doing well this season, but I’m not interested in going there.

“I would not betray the fans here. Look at Sol Campbell going from Tottenham to Arsenal.

“Tottenham fans looked upon that as a betrayal. I would never do that.”
