Dorus De Vries says he feels guilty over the Middlesbrough equaliser on Saturday

The Swansea City goalkeeper was the victim of being beaten by a complete Willo Flood fluke to give Middlesbrough an equaliser on Saturday just as the Swans looked as if they would take control of the game.

The fluke - struck from the touchline - meant spoils at the Riverside were shared keeping the Swans in fourth place in the Championship table.

But speaking to the Western Mail after the game, the Dutchman said that he could not help but feel guilty about the goal

“Of course I feel guilty,” he declared. “The guys all said it wasn’t my fault and there was nothing I could do about it, but you always have your own ideas about how you could have stopped it.

“As a keeper, after doing well for so many games, you always know you will make a mistake at some point. But, if this is the biggest mistake I make this season, it’s fine by me.

“You don’t want to concede like that, but it happens sometimes.

“You just have to learn from it and, having never conceded like that before, I will take something from this experience and make sure it doesn’t happen again.

“It was unbelievable. I watched it back and it’s hard to take because I took up the right position to take the cross.

“But then the movement of the ball is completely different and it sneaks just under the crossbar.

“It’s tough because, as a goalkeeper, you never want to get beaten by those.

“It comes out of nowhere and, when you concede like that, it’s a blow for the team and a bitter pill to take.”
