Brendan Rodgers says he will make a decision on trialist Zoltan Liptak next week

Brendan Rodgers says he will make a decision on trialist Zoltan Liptak next week

Liptak has been on trial this week with the Swans after his contract with Videoton ended.

With Rodgers on the look out for central defenders after the collapse of two deadline day deals, Liptak looks set to earn a contract at the club although the Swans boss insists that he will wait until after next week's reserve clash against Newcastle.

He told the Evening Post "He's a player who hasn't played a great deal lately

"We've obviously got hopes that he can do well, but in the first couple of days it's difficult.

"It's difficult for a fit player to come in because of the quality we have in our group.

"But it's even harder for someone who hasn't played since September 2, when he played very well against Sweden.

"I want to give him every chance to prove he is capable of coming into the group.

"We've got a reserve game next week, we'll probably take it through until then and we'll make a decision after that.

"Some of the guys that we've got coming in are international players so I wouldn't say they are on trial," said Rodgers.

"It's about fitness and seeing how far they are away.

"It's disrespectful if we're bringing in people who are 26 or 27 and have played a lot of games and then we put them on trial.

"The ones that we bring in we're hopeful can fit into our squad, then it's just a case of seeing if they've got that personality.

"It gives them a chance to have a look at us as well, which is important."
